Glorify, Love, Serve
It is our belief the Christian walk is a Gospel-centered walk. We, who were dead in our sins, have been saved by God’s grace through faith in the name of Jesus Christ. Therefore, by the necessity of the Holy Spirit working within us and for us, we will promote the saving grace and mercies of God embodied by the Gospel to the world. This is grounded in the fact that God has prepared beforehand all good works that will be accomplished through the Gospel of grace in Jesus Christ. (Eph 2:8–10).
Our History
Laurel Baptist Church began in 1992 as a small fellowship of local Christian believers meeting together in their homes. Consisting of only a few close families and friends, desiring to grow in the grace and knowledge of God, these early meetings centered around worship, prayer and teaching from the Bible. Shortly thereafter they began to seek pastoral leadership and another meeting place. By 1993 the congregation moved to the old post office on 1st Street in downtown Laurel.
Though the church would go on to experience significant hurt and multiple changes in leadership in that first decade, God demonstrated His faithfulness and goodness. In the summer of 1997 the church built its present building on Outfitter Trail in East Laurel, and in 2002 Pastor Jerry Overholt began shepherding the church. Over the years other men have faithfully ministered alongside him, while others, both men and women, have faithfully gathered and served in a variety of ways, as well. Most of all God, Himself, has continued to prove His faithfulness and kindness by ministering and caring for His people through the years. In God’s providence due to unforeseen health issues our beloved Pastor Jerry stepped down from the pulpit in 2021. In God’s providence, He called Rob Kimsey from Los Angeles, California to be the new Pastor-Teacher of Laurel Bible Church in January, 2023.
